About Arthur

I’m Arthur Airey, a medium-format film portrait photographer based in South Ayrshire, Scotland. After more than a decade specialising in wedding photography, I now dedicate my work to creating handcrafted outdoor portraits made slowly and intentionally on analogue film. My process is shaped by natural light, thoughtful composition and a calm, considered way of working. I don’t rush or over-direct; instead, I create space for genuine expression, honest emotions and quiet moments that make a portrait feel real.

Every session is photographed on professional film stocks, metered and composed with care, then finished with meticulous attention to colour, tone and texture. The result is portraiture that feels timeless, tactile and deeply personal. I work throughout Ayrshire, Glasgow, the Scottish Highlands and the Islands, offering a limited number of portrait experiences each year to ensure each one receives the time and attention it deserves.

Film is a deliberate medium, and that discipline shapes everything I do. I believe in photographing people as they truly are, relaxed, natural, and unforced, and in choosing landscapes that hold meaning, whether that’s a sweeping coastline, a quiet forest path or a dramatic Highland backdrop. Every experience includes fine-art prints, because photographs aren’t finished until they exist in your hands, not just on a screen.

If you’re looking for portraits that feel considered, natural and beautifully crafted, images you’ll still love in twenty years, I’d be honoured to create something with you.
