Every portrait I make is created slowly, intentionally, and on medium-format film. I work outdoors across Ayrshire and throughout Scotland, finding the right light and landscapes to create images that feel natural, honest and unforced. The experience is calm and unhurried with time to breathe, settle, and simply be yourself in front of the camera.
Film brings a sense of stillness and texture that can’t be rushed. Because each frame matters, the session becomes more thoughtful, more meaningful. You step into the landscape, the light shifts, and together we create portraits that feel timeless rather than trendy.
Sessions can take place close to home or turn into small journeys; beaches, forests, moorland, cliff edges, quiet lochs or Highland passes. I photograph individuals, couples and families who are drawn to something more considered, more personal, and more enduring.

1. Why film instead of digital?
Film creates a different rhythm, it’s slower, more intentional, and more thoughtful. Each frame is considered. The colours are softer, the tones richer, and the overall feel more timeless. It’s less about perfection and more about honesty.
2. What locations do you recommend?
I keep a curated list of places across Ayrshire and Scotland that work beautifully on film including beaches, woodland, rolling fields, ridgelines and quiet lochs. We choose a location that fits your personality and the mood you want from your portraits.
3. What should we wear?
Neutral, earthy tones photograph beautifully on film. Soft fabrics, layers, and simple textures work best. I’ll send you a small style guide after booking with colours and suggestions to help you prepare.
4. What happens if it rains?
Scotland’s weather shifts quickly. Light rain can actually look beautiful on film, but if the conditions would compromise the session (high winds, heavy rain), we simply reschedule at no cost. Flexibility is part of the process.
5. How long does it take to receive my photographs?
Film is processed by a professional lab, then I hand-edit the scans. Turnaround is usually 3–6 weeks, depending on the season and your chosen experience.
6. Do I receive digital images?
Yes, your final selections are delivered as high-resolution scans after the print reveal. You also receive full personal use rights.
7. Can we bring children or pets?
Absolutely. Families, couples, individuals and dogs are all welcome. I’ll guide you through making the session feel relaxed and natural for everyone involved.
8. Do you offer styling, makeup or hair artists?
Yes, I can arrange a trusted hair and makeup artist to join us on location for an additional cost. It’s optional but can add polish and confidence to your session.
9. Do you travel across Scotland?
Yes. While many sessions take place in Ayrshire, I regularly travel to the Highlands, the east coast and the islands. Travel time and costs depend on your chosen location and are always discussed clearly in advance.
10. How does the print reveal work?
Once your film is processed and edited, we arrange an online reveal where you see your images for the first time. Your included prints are selected here, and you can choose optional frames, albums or additional artwork.
11. How far in advance should I book?
Most clients book 2–8 weeks ahead, though summer weekends fill quickly. If you’re travelling or planning a destination style session, earlier is helpful.
12. Can I gift a portrait session?
Yes. I offer beautifully printed gift certificates that can be posted or collected. They make very meaningful gifts for birthdays, anniversaries or families.
